Lab 6 Reflection
It was a great semester at St. Mary's. I appreciate the fact that we were allowed to work with the children and broaden our leaning experience. The opportunity to work with the kids and teach them games was great. I feel that it was a great beginning to my school career in the physical education program. We learned how to work with the children on their level, use load voices, and develop age appropriate games for the children. Overall it was a great experience. LAB 6

Lab 5 Reflection
Lab 5 went very well. Everyone seemed to enjoy all the games very much. We were all very enthusiastic about the games, which allowed things to move very smoothly. Our group had the Pre-k children this week, we all had a lot of fun with this age group. We brought a bunny rabbit puppet craft for the children to make, and they loved it. In the gym we assessed to stationary bounce with hand skill and the kick. The students we observed did a great job as well as all the other students. Many people brought props and items that went along with the games they were doing which made the children much more interested in what we were going to do with them. Overall the experience was great and we all had a great time being active. LAB 5

In our classroom text books there is a lot of important information. These books help guide us to become the physical educators we strive to be. In our lecture class a couple of week ago the groups for Monday and Wednesdays labs were assigned different chapters to overview and create an educational slide show. Now slide shows can be done many different ways; in our classroom we like to show more then we like to tell. This is the reason that our slides have more pictures then words. In this teaching style we like to engage a persons interest with the picture present and a few important key words, and then tell a "story" about them, and how, and why they are important

St. Mary's Run For The Stars
Over the past weekend I volunteered to help out with the St. Mary's Run For The Stars 5K and 1K race. It was a lot of fun. There was a pancake breakfast for everyone, and a 1k race for the children, and some adults, then a 5k race for the adults, and older children. They gave out prizes at the end for the people that placed in each race. It was a great turn out. This is a wonderful way to get the community, and family's involved in physical activity's, and doing something healthy. There are many ways to sponsor events like this with getting donations from local store and asking people to donate for a cause. Overall it was a great experience.
lab 4 Reflection
This week at St. Mary's we did a Dinosaur Train theme. The children seemed to enjoy it very much. One child knew the characters I have on the I made as soon as she saw them. We observed the overhand throw, and the catching skills. The group that ran the games of for the gym group did a wonderful job giving directions, and instructing their games. Having been to St. Mary's for some time now I think we are becoming more comfortable with the children, and like wise for them with us. The comfort level I think is have a great effect on how we handle ourselves during the lab time. We have also been able to spend time with most of the age groups thus far, so being able to have that time has also helped. I have written up a lab on this weeks skills and observations. LINK

Lab 3 Reflection
As the weeks go by, and we spend more time with the children at St.Marys, teaching the kids our games becomes easier. By easier I mean that we are becoming more comfortable with the children as they are with us. I also see the level of enjoyment for the kids raising as well when we bring props in to go along with our games, and dress up in costumes that relate to the theme of the week. I believe my peers, and I are improving each and every week that we get to go to St. Marys. Whether it be with the comfort level with the kids, or the improvements of our teaching strategies this is a great experience for all of us. This week we had a western theme. Many of us dressed up as cowboys, and cowgirls to engage the children in playing the games, and a few of the group members also brought props to go along with our games. As we do every week we observed certain motor skills. This week we observed the leap, horizontal jump, and the slide. I have done a written lab for these skills and other techniques I noticed in this weeks lab.

Lab 2 Reflection
Our second time at St. Mary's was a great experience. After already being there once before I feel like we were all a lot more confident in presenting our games to the children. Our theme this week was cartoons and, I was pleased to see that many of us dressed up for the occasion. The children loved to costumes and, were very interested in them. I think enjoyed the costumes and props very much. I believe the games went very smoothly this week and, that the children had a lot of fun with them. I did notice that a few of the older children were a little less interested in the simpler games, so I think we need to revise some of them to fit their age group some more and, make them a little more challenging for them. Overall I think it was a very successful lab and look forward to our next one. We also observed the children for certain locomotor skills this week. Here is my lab observations.

Special Olympics
Over the past weekend I volunteered for the Special Olympics on Friday night and Saturday morning. It was an amazing experience to help out and meet the athletes. The athletes were awesome people they were so excited to be there and played the games with all their hearts. I wanted to share how much this experience meant to me and how it really touched me to be able to be apart of this event.

Virtus
The last two classes have really opened my eyes about the danger that faces children everyday. Of course child molestation isn't anything I didn't know about but now I know how to look for it and protect children from it ever happening to them. The videos we viewed in class made me see that anybody can do this and not to be stereotypical about it, to look for the warning signs in everyone. It also let me see how we as teachers can protect ourselves from this and that the guidelines in place are to protect everyone and are extermly helpful and useful.

Gym time today
Today’s lab really brought me back. I haven’t been in a P.E setting like that in a long time. It reminded me how much I love this field and how important it is in lives of children. The TAs did a wonderful job with their games and really made it an enjoyable time.

Fundamental skill development and assessment is so important to our profession and health of our students because it is the building blocks of development. Skill development includes motor, cognitive, and affective domains. Within each domain a different set of skills lay. With assessing these skills we have the power to improve our students life’s in every aspect. We can teach them how to improve on them and guide them in the right direction. With developing these skills our students will learn the importance of physical activity in life. In the motor development domain our students will become skillful movers, knowledgeable movers, and expressive movers. This is the core of our physical education. They learn locomotion, manipulation, and stability skills. It allows them to be physically active and enhances their overall fitness. Within the cognitive domain it is shown that children learn cognitive concept because the learning is fun and active. It also allows children to learn with their hands which can make it easier for them to grasp the concept. The affective domain A.K.A social-emotional development allows us as teachers to help our students become more active and develop a better self-concept, higher self-esteem and stronger social skills. All of this is a very important part of being healthy for our students. It is the building blocks to a healthy life in the long run. They will develop these skills now and in so will give them the motivation to practice and improve on them throughout their lives.

First week!
The first week here at Suny Cortland was a little overwhelming. I’m starting to get into a routine now so everything should start to fall into place. The physical education program seems to be a very challenging program but very fun and exciting at the same time. I was super excited to work with all the kids on Monday during lab and can’t wait to be able to spend more time there.

first time!!
This is my first time ever blogging, its interesting to say the least. It took me a little while to figure this all out, but I'm sure this will make for a much more productive semester. This is my first semester at Cortland so over break I was getting everything ready to re-locate here, and working. With deciding to attend Cortland I believe that's what I did over break to make my self a better teacher.
